BACKGROUND
Andy moved to Hays county in 2007 and has witnessed first hand the massive amount of growth that has taken place since that time. The most concerning issues he sees are the road conditions on the East side of 35 and the attempts to defund our law enforcement brothers and sisters. As this area continues to develop, more and more people are driving on already deteriorating roads. The projects and decisions that are made now will have an impact on our steady growth and generations to come in Hays County and surrounding areas.
After unexpectedly being medically retired in 2011, Andy started looking for ways to fill his time and give back to his community. He began by volunteering to do odd jobs for neighbors that grew into service to many. Andy has a servant’s heart and is looking out for the good of all people. Andy heads up the Neighborhood Watch for Shadow Creek, where he has resided for the past 12 years. He is also a member of the Hays County Citizens Sheriff’s Academy Alumni Association and served as the President of the organization for 3 years after completing both the basic and advanced classes of the program. Andy is a strong advocate for law enforcement and holds a degree in Criminal Justice. He spoke out for law enforcement at the Commissioner’s Court when there was talk of budget cuts. Andy volunteers with Hays County Sheriff's Office any time he can. One of the largest events that he volunteers for is Hays County Brown Santa. Andy assists in wrapping, packing and distribution as a team leader. His heart is in giving back to all citizens of Hays county. He is also a CERT member, helping the community and surrounding area in crisis situations. He was also just confirmed to the Executive Board of Hays County Crime Stoppers, for a 2 year term.
Andy’s wife, of 13 years, is a special needs teacher in Hays CISD and both his children attend Hays schools. He sees the importance of involvement with children and building up the next generations. Andy has volunteered many hours working with his children’s classes and helping with projects for his wife’s students. He has also served as a Watch Dog on his children's campus. Andy and his family are members of Christ Lutheran Church.
In his spare time, Andy enjoys getting back to nature on the family ranch. He is an avid hunter and enjoys trying to catch fish. He understands the importance of protecting our natural resources in the face of urban development.
Andy is looking forward to continuing the many projects currently underway in the area as well as, meeting the many other needs of the county. As the fastest growing county in the United States at this time, our roads and infrastructure must be able to withstand the added traffic.
